A couple weeks ago, I posted about the jumper and headband I made for my niece Emmy. I promised to post a tutorial on how to make the headband…and here it is! The headband took me 15 minutes to make, and is a great way to use up scraps of fabric. Need an idea for a stocking stuffer? This could be it! After all, Christmas is coming soon. Time to get crafting!
Flower Headband Tutorial
What you need:
I used scraps of fabric to make my headband. The flower petal (bottom) ended up being 2-inches in diameter; the flower center was 1-inch.
Steps
One
Iron the fabric for the flower petal (bottom) to the fusible interfacing. Then, stack it on top of the felt. Trace a circle onto the fabric, then cut the circle out.
Do the same for the flower center piece (iron the interfacing on, trace and cut out into a circle). After you do this, you’ll be left with two fabric circles, two felt circles, and two interfacing circles (not pictured below).

Shape the flower petal piece: stack the fabric on the felt circle. Take your scissors, and cut out ridges evenly around the circle to form petals.

Stack the pieces for the flower center piece together. Place on top of the flower petal piece you just cut. Using contrasting thread, carefully sew together.
Four
Take your elastic and cut it to the desired length. Sew the ends together to form a band. (For Emmy’s headband, the elastic was cut to 16-inches long; I overlapped the elastic an inch when I sewed the ends together, creating a final band that was 15-inches circumference.)
Center the sewn part of the elastic on the back of the flower piece, then sew in place. Then take your felt backing and cut a circle to fit the back piece. Glue the back piece on top of the elastic to hide the ends.
