snapped: my first photoshoot
Two weekends ago, I was in my first ever photo shoot. I’ve attended ones for work, where we shoot talent. I even had to step in as talent once. But this is the first time I was the model and the only model. And I discovered that I’m pretty awkward at it.
My friend Maryam, who blogs at Pamplemousse1983, asked if I’d be willing to be in a shoot. She’s a great photographer, but has been wanting to do more shots of people. So yes, I agreed.
We met around White Rock Lake here in Dallas, and this is where I demonstrated my best ‘deer in headlights’ face. Don’t get me wrong: it was fun, but man, I discovered that I’m really self conscious. From reading whollyKao, you probably notice that I don’t post many shots of myself. It’s something I’d like to do more of, though. And I’d like to give props to those who feel perfectly at ease in front of the camera.
To Maryam, I’d like to say: Thanks for the chance to be your model. The pics are lovely. Now…if I could only work on being less self conscious…

I wasn’t good at posing until after I lived in Hong Kong where that was all my friends ever seemed to do. The best thing for me is to look moody and face away from the camera. I’ve become far too good at amusing myself with self portraits. Either way, you look positively lovely, and the finished product leaves no evidence of the awkwardness

I don’t think he would want to model for the ladies jewelry and don’t think it would be flattering for our jewelry, lol!!

I can completely relate to feeling awkward during a photo shoot. My husband and I had engagement photos taken last year, and I have never felt more misplaced in my life. I kept saying “what do I do with my hands? where do I look? Do I smile??” ha. Those ANTMs sure do make it look easy, ha.
Your photos are beautiful nonetheless and you don’t look awkward at all. fabulous job.
Oh my gosh! Totally know the feeling. I remember feeling so silly/cheesy during our engagement shoot. Someone should write a tutorial on how to act during those, for those of us who aren’t natural at it (which is most ppl I’m assuming). I’m sure your engagement pics still came out lovely though! Hopefully you’ll never have to do it again!

Looks beautiful! I love the setting. I hate getting my picture taken-I’m so self concious because it always seems to turn out weird. Oh well, I like being behind the camera, anyway. Beautiful pictures, and I love the dresses you’re wearing!
