amy’s apron

My friend Amy’s birthday was back in September. I had meant to make her something special, but didn’t know what. Luckily, she saw my blog post on Nat’s apron, and told me she wanted an apron too – but one with a top part. Consider it a belated birthday present, I told her.

I started by looking for reference pics online, then sketched out a plan of action.
In general, I followed this sketch, but didn’t end up making the neck strap the same, and omitted the monogrammed pocket. I had learned a couple lessons from making Nat’s apron, so Amy’s went more smoothly.

In between cutting and sewing the white fabric for the ruffle, I took a photo break.

Wouldn’t this make a cute pillow cover?

After cutting out the ruffles and the waist and neck straps, I started on the body. I kept measuring it against myself to make sure it’d fit Amy.

Once the body was done, I sewed on the waist and the neck straps. I used the button setting on my sewing machine to make a button hole on the neck strap so that the apron would be easier to put on and take off.
And finally, I had Amy’s apron. It’s retro and fun.
And since Amy’s an excellent cook, I know it’ll get put to good use. Happy birthday Amy!
